5 Delectable Ways to Celebrate National Oyster Day!

Our favorite day of the year is here, and we can’t wait to shuck, slurp, and celebrate our way through the day. Whether you dine in or out we have got you covered with an array of delicious ways to enjoy this delectable delicacy, the oyster!

1. With something sparkling…

Oysters on the Half Shell with Rosé Mignonette

By Jeremy Sewall and Food & Wine

Nothing says summer quite like a glass of rosé and this recipe takes inspiration from the bubbly version of summers beverage darling. The fresh flavor of our Sanctuary Oysters is enhanced perfectly by this mignonette crafted with an effervescent pink. Serve atop a bed of ice we envision enjoying these whilst dining alfresco on a warm summer evening and sipping on a crisp glass of, rosé naturally.

2. With something unique that pops…

Oysters with Finger Lime and Ginger Mignonette

By Three Blue Ducks and Bon Appetit

Looking to mix it up with your traditional mignonette? This preparation includes an array of flavorful ingredients like ginger, soy sauce and rice vinegar. The star of this unique mignonette though is the pulp or pearls from aromatic finger limes. Often used as a playful substitute for caviar, the pulp of finger limes has the same spherical shape as fish roe and imparts a playful pop of citrus zing when used. The deep cups of our Sanctuary Oysters are perfect for capturing both the natural liquor of the oyster and the delectable mignonette and finger lime pearls.

2. With the classics...

We love a fun new recipe as much as anyone else but sometimes it’s nice to revisit the ol’ reliables. Oysters Rockefeller dates back to turn of the twentieth century New Orleans and is a rich, cooked oyster preparation that incorporates spinach, garlic, breadcrumbs, butter and parmesan cheese. You can also never go wrong with a classic shallot and vinegar based mignonette as a topper to shucked oysters served on a bed of ice. Lastly, one of our most favorite ways to enjoy our Sanctuary Oysters and most happily the simplest preparation, shucked and served on the half shell with a squeeze of lemon and dash of your favorite hot sauce. This preparation really lets the briny flavor and plump texture of our Sanctuary Oysters shine.

4. By letting someone else do the work…

If your idea of proper celebrating is dining out, we have got that covered too. Southern California has no shortage of fine seafood eateries featuring our beloved Sanctuary Oysters on their menu. A few of our favorites, Lure Fish House in Ventura, King’s Fish House, Water Grill,   Mr. Shrimp in Oxnard and El 7 Mares in Los Angeles. Even if you are not a seasoned oyster eater, never fear! With these tips in your back pocket, you’ll be  ready to confidently order and enjoy oysters in no time.

5. By learning something new…

Whether preparing your oysters at home or dining out and about, be sure to take a moment on National Oyster Day to learn something new about the world’s favorite bivalve. Dive into some of the most common myths about oysters and discover which are fact and which are fiction. Explore the diet of oysters and discover what makes them so delicious. Take a deep dive into the story of oyster shells and what they can tell you. Or learn more about the origin of oysters, from seed to table as we say, and their journey from the ocean to your plate.

From our oyster loving hearts to yours, we wish you and yours a most delectable National Oyster Day!
