Introducing Agromarinos

At Sanctuary Oysters, our work is rooted in the rhythm of the ocean, the strength of our community, and a commitment to evolving sustainably. Now, we’re proud to introduce a new chapter in our story: the Agromarinos Farm, a site that reflects both innovation and tradition, located in the uniquely protected area of Bahía Falsa in the San Quintín region of Baja California.

A New Location, Year-Round Excellence

Unlike other sites that pause during warmer seasons, Agromarinos operates year-round thanks to its cooler, consistent waters. The site has undergone nearly two years of reorganization and now reflects the same attention to quality that defines all Sanctuary Oysters. Here, we’ve shifted from older, more rustic methods, such as hanging oysters in strings, to the rack-and-sack method already used successfully at our El Cardón farm. This approach has improved organization, enhanced meat quality, and supported healthier oyster development.

“The product quality has been really good, and the meat has been excellent,” shared the farm team. “It’s exciting to see results match the care we’re putting into the process.”

Sustainability in Action: Solar and Site Upgrades

We’ve also been making strides toward sustainable operations at the Agromarinos plant:

  • Infrastructure Updates: No major overhauls, just consistent maintenance, equipment repairs, fresh paint, and deep cleaning. The result? A facility that looks and runs bonito!

  • Solar Transition: Currently, nearly 20% of our plant is solar-powered, including all office operations.

This marks an important step toward reducing our environmental footprint while continuing to grow premium oysters in clean, responsibly managed waters.

Naturally Protected, Strategically Located

While Agromarinos is not located in a biosphere reserve like El Cardón, the land it sits on is part of one of four federally recognized protected areas in San Quintín. The surrounding region, marked by volcanic landscapes, wetlands, and tidal flats, offers ideal conditions for oyster cultivation and environmental stewardship.

What’s Next, FlipFarm Technology

As part of our commitment to innovation, Agromarinos is preparing to implement FlipFarm technology, a system that enhances oyster handling and consistency using floating baskets. Installation has just begun, and we expect to be fully operating the FlipFarm system within six months.

“We’re just getting started with the baskets,” said the team. “FlipFarm will help us streamline operations and improve consistency across harvests.”

A Sanctuary Standard, A Unique Place

While Agromarinos shares the same mission and methods as Sanctuary’s flagship farm at El Cardón, we’re clear about the distinction—this is a new location with its own identity, shaped by its geography, infrastructure, and operational progress. It may not be a biosphere reserve, but it is a protected area with extraordinary natural value, and our work here honors that distinction with transparency and care.

We’re proud of the team, progress, and potential at Agromarinos. Stay tuned as we continue to grow—with clean energy, protected waters, and oysters that reflect the flavor of the place they come from.
